Former Golden Valley VFW bookkeeper charged
A former bookkeeper is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Golden Valley VFW over at least a five-year period. Becky Heald, 59, of Maple Grove, is charged with one count of felony theft by swindle. She's accused of forging checks totaling more than $177,000.

Brooklyn Park takes new approach to domestic violence
For the first time, the Brooklyn Park Police Department will have a full-time domestic abuse victim's advocate on staff. The position will work with police and victims to prevent the escalation of domestic violence. Four of the five homicides in Brooklyn Park last year were domestic violence cases.

Maple Grove pedestrian hit and killed
A driver swerved, then hit and killed a pedestrian on a Maple Grove sidewalk around noon on Tuesday. It happened near the intersection of Elm Creek Boulevard and Hemlock Lane. Police say there had been reports of a motorist driving erratically before the pedestrian was hit.
