CHANNEL 12 NEWS: Meet The News Team
        

NEWS DIRECTOR/ANCHOR MIKE JOHNSON

Mike was born and raised in Minnesota. He joined the 12 News team in May 2005. While work and family have taken him away for years at a time to places like Texas and Wisconsin, he keeps returning to Minnesota.

Mike comes to 12 News most recently from Madison, Wisconsin, where he worked as news anchor and reporter for NBC affiliate WMTV. Before that, he worked for ten years as an anchor at Hubbard Broadcasting's All News Channel based in St. Paul. Mike also worked for more than 15 years as news anchor and reporter for NBC affiliates in El Paso and Corpus Christi, Texas.

Mike enjoys telling stories that are important to viewers and meeting interesting people who make the news.

When he's not working, Mike has always been a Minnesota sports fan, following the Twins and Vikings, even in Packers and Cowboys country.

 

 

ANCHOR/REPORTER JENNIFER ANDERSON

Jennifer was born and raised in the northwest suburbs, and though her studies and travels sent her to Europe and back, she is a Midwest girl at heart. With degrees in both Communication Studies and Dance, Jennifer graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.

Jennifer loves what she does because of the people and places and stories she encounters every day. A fan of the arts, Jennifer enjoys storytelling through all mediums, from the news room to the dance stage.


 

ANCHOR/SPORTS DIRECTOR JOHN JACOBSON

John Jacobson has worked as Channel 12's sports director since March 1990. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at River Falls with majors in Broadcast Journalism and Speech Communications. Previous work stops for John include KDMA and KROX Radio, Paragon Cable, KXLI-TV and KMSP-TV.

John is a native of Crystal, Minnesota, and a graduate of Robbinsdale High School.







REPORTER/ANCHOR ALEXANDRA RENSLO

Alexandra Renslo joined the 12 News team in July 2005 as a reporter and weekend anchor. Although she was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Alexandra has spent a considerable amount of time in the Twin Cities over the years, as that's where most of her extended family lives.

Alexandra comes to 12 News from WKBT-TV in La Crosse, where she worked for six and a half years as a weeknight anchor, reporter, and producer. Before that, Alexandra spent some time working for a political reporter at CNN in Washington, D.C., and also worked on several news programs at Wisconsin Public Television.

Alexandra got her degree in journalism and English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In her free time, she loves to travel, play tennis, spend time outdoors, take pictures, and read.



SPORTS REPORTER JAY WILCOX

Jay has covered the northwest suburban sports scene for Channel 12 since 1988. He is a sports reporter, play-by-play announcer, anchor, and co-host of "Sports Jam". Prior to coming to Channel 12, Jay got his start covering sports at KGCX radio in Sidney, Montana. Jay is a graduate of Elk River High School and Brown Institute.








REPORTER LISA FURGISON

Lisa comes to us from the Rocky Mountains of Montana. While in the Treasure State she worked as a reporter for the ABC affiliate in Great Falls. As a reporter there, she covered everything from murder trials to wildfires. She also volunteered to go to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina hit. Being there by herself didn't stop her from showing how Montanans were helping in a time of need.

She grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York and got her degree in Mass Communications at Plattsburgh State. Lisa is glad to call Minnesota home now as she trades the mountain ranges for lake views. In her free time she loves skiing and traveling.

 



REPORTER SHANNON SLATTON

Shannon is a southern girl who came to the Twin Cities from Shreveport, Louisiana,
where she was an anchor and reporter for the NBC affiliate. While there, she covered
the Columbia shuttle recovery effort in East Texas and the aftermath of Katrina in
New Orleans as well as several other stories in the Ark-La-Tex.

Shannon grew up in small town Arkansas and got her degree at Henderson State University

in Arkadelphia, Arkansas before completing graduate work at the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University in New York. Shannon taught a broadcast journalism course at HSU for 7 semesters, and she continues to teach the course online.

Shannon loves to travel, but she has enjoyed getting to know the places and people of Minnesota. She helps out as an interpreter at local parks, and on a beautiful day you can find her enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Dave.



SPORTS REPORTER JASON MELILLO

Jason comes to Channel 12 after three years as a sports anchor/reporter at WXOW in La Crosse, WI.

Jason was born and raised in New Jersey and is a graduate of New Hampshire College where he played hockey.
