Champlin Park edges Centennial in playoff football opener

Champlin Park edged Centennial on the last play of the game when the teams met in the regular season, so the Rebels knew that they would be challenged in the opening round of the playoffs.

Champlin Park, the No. 3 seed in Section 5AAAAAA, beat the Cougars 35-27 Friday night.

Michael Sales rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns before leaving with an ankle injury. That sends Champlin Park to Wayzata for a sixth consecutive season at playoff time.

The Trojans are no longer in the same section as the Rebels, but the new Class AAAAAA crossover format has them meeting once again.
