In the early 1980s, it was a new edition to the sports scene in the northwest metro. Now the Dudley-Budweiser Classic men's slowpitch softball tournament is a fixture in Brooklyn Center.
Many of the top teams in the nation are in town for the tournament, which starts Friday night and runs until the championship around noon on Sunday. Top local teams are also part of the field, with many fans coming hoping to see a "David vs. Goliath" upset.
Brooklyn Center's Central Park fields are the main site for the tournament, with Evergreen Park and Crystal's Becker Park also in use.
