Osseo won't receive money for new police station

The results are in and Osseo was not one of the winners in a statewide competition for $47 million in economic development grants. The city of Osseo had requested $750,000 from the state of Minnesota to help build a new police station.

City officials want it replaced due to mold problems and concerns about security.

"We didn't really think that we might get selected," said Osseo Mayor Al Lindquist. "But the reality is this is the first step in applying for other grants to get money to really financially support a new police department that we really do need"

Mayor Lindquist says Osseo probably wasn't selected because construction of a new police station wouldn't employ as many people as some of the other projects that received grant funding.

The big winner was St. Paul, which received $25 million for a new Saints ballpark.
