As the second year of Matt Lombardi's tenure as Maple Grove's head football coach begins, the pieces are in place to continue the progress the Crimson made late last season.
Maple Grove was 4-6 in 2011, but by the end of the season they had a pretty solid team. The Crimson blasted No. 3 seed St. Michael-Albertville 36-0 in their playoff opener in Section 5AAAAA last fall and nearly upset rival Osseo in the semifinals.
This fall, Maple Grove returns eight starters, six of them on offense.
With another year to get acclimated to the coaching staff, the Maple Grove players are ready to pick up where they left off.
