Child predator suspect spotted near Crystal pool

A Crystal man charged with trying to solicit sex from Little League baseball players may have been spotted at a Crystal pool.

Michael Hamer is out on bail while awaiting his next court appearance. As a condition of his release, Hamer is not supposed to be around children under 18 years old. But one boy said he was him at the Crystal Cove Aquatic Center on Monday.

"He informed me that he thought he's seen Michael Hamer observing the swimmers at the pool. At the time he was scared to tell anyone," said Shelley, mother of the witness. "He was very sure that this was that Michael Hamer that has been reported. He's seen pictures of him and he knows what he looks like."

Crystal police are now investigating the alleged bail violation. Police arrested Hamer after setting up a sting on Facebook after allegations surfaced that Hamer might be trying to lure young boys. Another mom showed 12 News a message her son supposedly got from Hamer, asking the boy to meet him at the Mall of America to see a few movies.

"In some ways we want him to get caught, so he'd be back in and we wouldn't have to worry about what our kids are doing," said Marcie, who like Shelley, did not want provide last names for safety reasons.

The concerned parents are now keeping a close eye on their kids.

"I was home with him yesterday, my husband is home with him today," said Shelley. "We are making sure an adult is with him at every point now. We have fear that even if he's with friends, this guy is getting more and more daring."
