Eddie Mosley faces first-degree murder charges

The man accused of killing a Brooklyn Park daycare owner and her elderly parents is now facing first-degree murder charges.  Thursday, a Hennepin County grand jury indicted Eddie Mosley, 34, on nine counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of DeLois Brown and James and Clover Bolden.

For each of the victims, Mosley was indicted for premeditated first-degree murder, for committing murder while committing burglary and for committing murder while commtting burglary while possessing a gun. If convicted, Mosley faces life in prison without parole.

According to court documents Mosley drove to Brooklyn Park from St. Louis, Mo., to kill his teenage niece who had accused him of sexual assault. The court papers go on to say Mosley knew the girl used to go to DeLois Brown’s in-home daycare in the mornings. When he entered the home the morning of April 9 and did not find the girl, he instead shot and killed DeLois Brown and her parents.

A spokesman for the Hennepin County Attorney’s office says the intent all along was to seek first-degree murder charges against Mosley. However, prosecutors sought the lesser second-degree murder charges back in May to keep Mosley locked up until a grand jury was available to indict him. In Minnesota, a grand jury must indict someone on first-degree murder.

Friday afternoon, Mosley made his first court appearance on the indictment. The victims’ family members were also in court and say they’re pleased with the upgraded charges.

"This person is dangerous," says James Bolden, DeLois Brown's brother and James and Clover Bolden's son. "Something is seriously wrong in someone that can do something like this. So I think life without parole is the best idea."

Mosley is being held in the Hennepin County Jail. His bail remains at $6 million. He's due back in court for a hearing Sept. 10.
