Josh Bertelson of Plymouth leads off our "Give it a Tri" series featuring triathletes from the northwest suburbs. A hockey player at Wayzata High School in the late 1990s, Bertelson took up triathlons about five years ago.
He was diagnosed with leukemia a year later, but he is in remission and medication has allowed Josh to continue to train and compete with little or no side effects.
Bertelson completed one triathlon at the Ironman distance, but is focusing on sprint triathlons, where he placed in the top ten in his age group at nationals in 2010.
He'll compete at the Life Time Fitness-Minneapolis event Saturday, and then at the USA Sprint Nationals in Vermont in August.
